Help using this CD-ROM
Reading papers
You need Adobe Acrobat (or the free Reader v10) installed on your computer to be able to view the papers and presentations on this CD-ROM. If you do not have it or if you have an older version and are having trouble viewing the papers, click on the Acrobat button in the title bar above (1) to install v10 Reader from the CD-ROM.

A dialog box will pop open. Choose "Yes" to continue (2), or press "No" if you do not need to install the software or if you would rather install it from another location (the Adobe web site, will have the most up-to-date version to download for free).

Follow the on-screen prompts to install the software. You may need to close and restart the CD-ROM in order for the changes to take effect (to do this, exit the software, eject and re-set the disc in the drive).
Installing Acrobat Reader
Click on the Acrobat button on the title bar to install the Reader software from the CD
If after installing Acrobat the papers still do not load when you click on their links (instead you just get a blank window), it may be that Acrobat's browser plug-in has been disabled. To enable it, start Acrobat. Choose "Preferences" from the Edit menu. In the dialog box, select the "Internet" category in the left-hand panel. Underneath the "Web Browser Options" there is an option labelled Display PDF in Browser. Make sure this box is ticked. Press "OK" to confirm the changes. You may need to restart your computer for changes to take effect (you will be prompted).

be displayed in browser windows
Window features
Use the tab in the bottom-right corner to resize the window to suit your needs. To close a paper and return to the main screen, click on the cross button in the top-right of the window. The other buttons along the top window bar are (from left to right): to maxmize the window to fill the screen; to install Acrobat Reader; to minimize the window. Please refer to the Acrobat Reader help file for advice on using the features in the toolbar below.

Search
Underneath the main menu buttons you'll find a search box. To use it, enter the phrase or keyword in the text field (where it reads "enter search word") and press the "Search" button.
Search box
Enter a word or phrase into the box to find the speaker or paper you're looking for
Depending on your computer's settings a dialog box may appear (below). Don't worry, this is normal, and it will only happen once. Just press the "Yes" button (pressing "No" will cause the search to malfunction) and the program will carry on searching.
ActiveX Control dialog box
Our search tool is an ActiveX control.
Press 'Yes' to allow it to do its magic
If there is an anti-virus program installed on your computer, it may ask you to authorise the script needed to run the search tool. It is perfectly safe to do so. If you don't authorise the script then, just as with disabling the ActiveX Control, the search will not work properly.

The results of your search will be displayed in the box above the search button (use the up and down arrow buttons to scroll through the list of results). To view a page in the list, double-click on the entry. The word that you searched for will be highlighted on the page.
Scrolling pages
To the right of most pages in this program you'll find up and down arrow buttons (like those on the right of this Help page). Press and hold the up or down button to scroll up or down the document. You can also use the scroll wheel on your mouse (if you have one) or the up and down cursor keys.

The software will automatically remember where you last scrolled to on certain pages, and so when you return to that page, it will be in the same place (even after closing and restarting the CD).

Web links
Scattered around the program you'll find plenty of e-mail or Web links. These are active, so you can just click on them to send the person an e-mail, or to browse a site. With web links, the site will open in a new window using your computer's default browser. You can still continue to use this program alongside the browser.
