  • Responsible for research on the effects of physical factors at the workplace and the non-occupational environment (noise, vibrations, climate) and on chronobiology (shiftwork).

  • Past-President of the International Commission on Biological Effects of Noise.
  • Chairperson of the workgroup 'Noise Effects' within the research network 'Quiet Traffic'.
  • Permanent delegate for WHO in occupational health (member of Planning Committee).
  • Expert adviser for professional associations, member of national and international standardisation groups on climate (DIN, CEN, ISO).


Experience (concerning noise, since 1971)

  • Experimental studies on primary and secondary physiological and psychosocial effects of noise (mainly transportation noise) during consciousness and during sleep.
  • Studies on individual characteristics and situational influences that interfere with noise processing (gender, age, health disorders).
  • Field studies on the effects of tranportation noise.
  • Modelling of upper limits for intermittent traffic noise.


Collaborations

  • Extended experience in international collaboration since 1971
  • EU-funded research on noise and on climate since 1978.
