Prof Peter Lercher, MD, MPH

 

Dr Lercher has a background in general medicine, is a specialist in hygiene and environmental health, and holds a MPH in Epidemiology from Chapel Hill, NC.

He is Associate Professor of Social Medicine at the University of Innsbruck (Medical faculty) and lecturer for Epidemiology and Environmental Health at the School of Public Health (ASPHER member).

Dr. Lercher has conducted several integrated epidemiologic studies into the effects of transportation noise (road and rail) and air pollution on communities in alpine areas and serves as consultant at the local, national, and international level.

Main research interest: implementing an integrated research perspective on adverse health effects of transportation noise.

Dr. Lercher was Steering Committee member of the European Concerted Action: Air Pollution Epidemiology (COST 613/2) from 1992-1995 and has contributed to its Air Pollution Epidemiology Report Series.

In October 1997 he joined the EC-concerted action PAN as a partner and is now partner of the EC-project NOPHER.

From 1993-1998 he served as chair, from 1998-2003 he serves as cochair of team 3 (non-auditory physiological effects induced by noise) of the International Commission on the Biological Effects of Noise (ICBEN).

Dr Lercher is also member of Team 6 since 1993.
